- 1 cup flour
- 1 cup warm water
- 2 teaspoons cream of tartar
- 1 teaspoon oil
- 1/4 cup salt
- food coloring or pastry coloring for brighter colors
- glitter and/ or peppermint, lavender, or sweet orange essential oils
Mix flour, cream of tartar, oil, and salt in an old cooking pot you don't care too much about.
In a separate container (coloring MAY stain container), mix food coloring with warm water and pour into pot. (add essential oil and glitter too if desired)
Stir over medium heat until smooth.
Remove from pan and knead until blended smooth.
Place in plastic bag or airtight container when cooled, and it will last for a long time.

I have made this so many times with kool-aid for coloring and never once thought of using essential oils instead. What a great idea!!!
Looks so much better than over the counter dough! Thanks for sharing :)
This is so cool!
We make playdough a lot in our house. It keeps my two playing for ages!
My favourite is Christmas Playdough, where you add a cup of spice to your recipe it smells beautiful while being played with, and the shapes can be baked - and STILL smell delicious.
They make really nice tree decorations or gifts.
My mom used to use baby oil instead of regular to make it smell nice. . . just don't use it for kiddos who may try to eat it!
