Welcome Home Friends!

I have been asked again and again over the past week why I haven't chimed in my opinions on the story about Rebel Heart. This is not a "story" to me, they are friends. And this is their life. And I frankly don't give a (insert expletive here) what others think of them or the sailing with kids thing. All I care about is that my friends are safe, and that they can get the love and support they need to move forward with their life.

WELCOME HOME!!!!!!!!!!! We love you!!!!!!!!!!!

And if you're wondering about kids and sailing... have a look at this album. Sailing families from all over are contributing to it to. If a picture is worth a thousand words, then this should out blab all of the haters.

Kids Boats Love Album

And PLEASE if you can spare a few dollars, please help by contributing to a fundraiser that was started by a group of friends. Their boat is on the bottom of the ocean with everything they owned on it. They need support to start over again and move onward. Thank you!

Thank you :)
It's been very disheartening to read the unkind and downright hateful comments that people are writing online about them. Since when did we become a society of people who kicks our wounded when they're down? I wish all of the best to your friends!

Good post! There seem to be a fair number of ugly comments out there relating to the cost of rescuing this well-prepared family who found themselves in an unfortunate predicament. But how does it compare to the cost of looking for the missing Malaysian plane? The Coast Guard and Navy exist, in part, for such rescues. I'm very glad your friends are safe.

Thank you Lorna, we are glad they're safe too!
So sorry for your friends' tumultuous couple weeks. And sorry that, on top of everything, people decide to use the out-of-sightedness of the internet to hold court about this family's choices. Anyone who consider it objectively would understand that the last thing the family needs in this scary time is the harsh critique of judgey strangers. That said, we will be praying for your friends, and hope to make a modest donation to them in their time of need. We're people, we're families. Homes burn down alllllll the time. No one starts waxing critical that people are irresponsible for living in houses. Anyway. One of the things I love about you, Cindy, is that you're a good friend.

Thank you Susanna!
How can you contribute to the photo album?

I think you can leave me a comment on FB requesting to add. Sorry, I am not a tech wizard. Hope that works!
Thanks for your post. I stumbled on Rebel Heart's blog through your site, and have very much enjoyed reading about their journeys. Following Charlotte's personal revelations and legal battle has been very helpful to me as my family deals with a similar situation. I was really sad to read the news reports and moreso on reading the very negative comments they were receiving. I'm glad to know they have such wonderfully supportive friends to hold them up and get them back on their feet (or deck).

Thank you Justine, and I hope you are able to get support as well. :)
We're landlubbers but I've been livid over the public's shaming of this great family. No one raises their kids on a boat without tons of preparation and thoughtfulness! So terribly sorry to hear of their loss, hope the baby makes a quick recovery!

Seems she is stable and healthy now, such good news. Thanks for your kind words Meredith.
Beautifully put. I hope they are back home and back on their feet/water soon.
No one has the right to comment - we all make our own choices and they are personal. It was saddening to see the negativity - bred by ignorance in most cases I think.

Ignorance indeed! Thank you Aimee for your well wishes!
My experience of 28 years of parenting, all of it on land and in a house but that isn't relevant, is that when something goes "wrong" there is no end to those sitting in judgement of the parents:( When everything is fine nobody ever tells you what a great job you are doing. I am glad that this family is safe and sound and that is what matters.

I think we all need to work harder on that s.e.... great point! We need to tell each other more often what a great job is being done.

As an onboard mama of two boys aged 6 and 4 and as a boat kid myself (grew up on a home built trimaran) this breaks my heart to hear. I'll be contributing a few $$ and I send my best wishes that they can recover and hit the open water again soon.

As for kids onboard it's how we do things and there is no plan to change that any time soon. Its our home. I even birthed my youngest onboard with an awesome midwife who was the partner of one of our mooring neighbours. The close knit sense of community we have is something I could never swap. We even have a womens craft circle once a week and there is always some one to help with a sail or the dreaded antifouling lol.
