My new best friends

Meet Michelle. She and her husband Rob are my new best friends.
I have been trying to keep a stiff upper lip the past 4 days since returning from our little get away. I am 29 weeks pregnant, it's been 100 degrees every day, and our air conditioning broke. I know that air conditioing is a luxury aboard a boat, but where we live it's pretty much a necessity, especially if you are home all day with a little one and pregnant. We live in the south. Technically Maryland is below the Mason-Dixon line. And the whole metro Washington DC are used to be a swamp. They filled it in, built a capital, and traded one kind of cold blooded population for another (gators for politicians). So the 100 degrees plus the insane humidity and complete lack of wind makes for heat warnings and air quality warnings every day this time of year. And did I mention our air conditioing broke?

So Zach and I have been hanging out between the marina pool and the library trying to Zen through this. For some reason, 99% of the marine service companies in our fair city do not work on weekends, let alone answer the phone. Except Rob & Michelle of Dependable Marine Service. They answered the phone on a holiday weekend and showed up within minutes of me calling (they happened to be in the neighborhood). Within 30 minutes the took this beast apart, diagnosed what was wrong, and promised to be back the next day with the part.
And they were, which sadly is unheard of in the marine trades in our neck of the woods. And we now have blissfully cool air flowing throughout the boat. And good thing too, because this is what it was like a few minutes before they came to the rescue.
Notice the little sad face on the display next to the 109.8 degrees? A drastic understatement. So let's all take a moment and give thanks for climate control.

I was 40 weeks pregnant this time last year. And while the SF Bay Area generally has a nice breeze, it was scorching hot. I believe I retreated to a hotel for a few days while the boat was conveniently being varnished. So glad that you will stay cool now!

oh cindy. wow. so glad you got your a/c fixed.

we hit 106 here yesterday (with a "feels like" of 117) and spent the day hunkered down at my parents' house soaking up the a/c.

the library is our other go to place on the hottest days.

and of course the beach too!

Oh my goodness! Isn't reliable help a blessing when you need it the most. . . My furnace guy has repeatedly saved us in several different circumstances. He always puts families with small children to the front of the service line, what a nice policy!

That AC unit looks divine. Sadly we have none. We're north of you, in Boston, but the heat wave has hit here too.

The hottest it was in the boat was 105...I can't imagine 109. Sad face indeed.

The sucky part for us is that we're hauled out and in a gravel parking lot, so our only relief is to climb under the boat with a good book and enjoy the shade.

We took the dog to dunkin' donuts and no one said anything the first day. The second day though, we got booted. We just can't leave the dog alone in this heat, so we're waiting it out. Will be back in the water tomorrow which should help a ton.

Enjoy the cool air! You deserve it.
