Well... we finally, FINALLY got a chance to take our new rigging out for a test yesterday. It was the first time we were able to combine the new mainsail, fast track, stack pack, running rigging, and newly re-built winches all together. And man was it fabulous!
(The new mainsail built by Neil Pryde sails is on the right. The scary mildew pocked ancient genoa is on the left. Replacing that one is next on our hit list.)
I have loads of photos and tales from our first trip of this season, but I'll keep this set to the geeky boat ones rather than the cute kids ones. Dyneema purposefully left the core exposed on the last few meters of line. For racing boats, it helps them save weight, for Dyneema it lets them show off the heart of their product, and for us it just looks groovy. With all of the new rigging it was truly easier to handle the boat overall. I didn't feel like I was struggling to get things set to sail, and even with kids underfoot things went really smoothly.
I have to say the boat performed really well. We had a quiet, mellow sail down the Bay, and since it was a weekday we were all alone out there. Magic. So a very belated and heartfelt thank you and two thumbs up to Dyneema! And to all of you who clicked in and helped make it happen!
