I can almost tolerate one snake, but four of them just makes me shudder. (I was just telling my kids last night how, when I was a kid, I couldn't even touch pictures of snakes in magazines. I used to have my siblings help me turn pages in Ranger Rick.)
oh my goodness! Is that a nest of snakes! Ugh! What kind are they? We have huge (2 metres, thickness of your upper arm) carpet snakes/pythons here in Brisbane. They live under our houses and in our roofs. They are quite harmless and very unobtrusive usually but do leave their skins for us each spring and when they make an appearance - it is a shuddery moment! The ducks look more my cup of tea. :-)
Hi, I found your blog from your comment on Soulemama's site, and I saw your comment on storing food on your boat. Have you ever tried sprouting? It's a very easy way to get some fresh greens from whole grains, seeds, nuts or legumes. There's loads of info online, here's one http://www.cityfarmer.org/sprout86.html our favourite are almonds, broccoli, and chick peas.
I find it hilarious that such a nerve was touched with the snake photo. Not my intention to give anyone the heebiejeebies :) It just happens to be what the boy was looking down at from that piling. They are water snakes. Totally harmless and they swim all around the shallows here. I used to FREAK when I saw them, but his love for them (and I mean LOVE) has made me see them a little differently. That's a mama nesting up with her babies.
Julia - thanks for the link! We used to sprout on board many moons ago on our previous boat. It's something we talk about getting back in to and just haven't done it yet. Though now we're making our own kombucha so maybe it's a good time to set aside a little area for such things.

Wendy: Ranger Rick! <3 I remember Ranger Rick, and Big Backyard!
Snakes I'm totally cool with. Spiders...not so much.
snakes are cool to me...until they move.

LOL Ok, the fact that it's a momma snake & babies makes it almost 'cute'.
Maybe not cute, but I think it is sweet!
