Pirate Crafts

Here's a riddle... what do you get when you mix a Waldorf inspired home with a pirate loving kid?
THIS
AND THIS
Behold, pirate gnomes. Seriously silly and endlessly played with. If I can make these, anyone can. You can get the blank gnome bodies at Casey Wood and then go crazy. And craft impaired me figured out how make these by following the excellent tutorial by Squirrel Acorns.

Another easy pirate craft -- make a quill pen! I just took a regular pen (I didn't want to mess with ink wells and a 4 year old) and a feather and some matching tape and VOILA! This was a stocking stuffer for the holidays and it gets used every single day with pride.

And Zach loves sewing bags for his treasures from felt and some scraps of nautical fabric and fun buttons we got on freecycle.
My fabulous friend and neighbor Jen made this Pirate Art Roll Up for Z's birthday using the template from Soulemama's The Creative Family...

Trying to stay handmade and be salty at the same time is a snap thanks to etsy.com -- if I had the know-how and space I would try more of these things myself, but thanks to etsy I can avoid plastic pirate junk and don't have to unplug the heater to run a sewing machine or power saw (it's all about balancing amps, ya know!)

Here are some of our favorite PIRATE FINDS on ETSY
Felt Pirate Crown by Hunting Faeries
Wood Cannons from Gepetto (these are $5!!! And the craftsmanship is AMAZING!)
Wooden Sword & beautiful leather scabbard from BirchLeaf Designs
Pirate Felt Board from Nodin's Nest
Our Favorite Shirt by Mylie!!!!! (for boy or girl)
Waldorf Pirate Set by You're Inspired
Shadow Puppet Ships by Orange Moon Toys (we LOVE these!)
Most Beautiful Wooden Pirate Swords ever by Friendly Fairies
Lovely little Wooden Boats by WillowBaus
Upcycled Pirate Backpack from BratsacksBaby
Pirate Ship screen print shirt from Salmon Street Studios
Pirate Baby Beanie cap (crazy cute!) from KendraNakamura
Pirate Bunting Flags from This Handmade Life
More Pirate Bunting Flags

You don't need Disney movie knick-knacks and pirate plastic to have a salty-dog time with your little one. Arrrrrrgh!

Love! I'm going to try to teach my 5 year old how to sew felt soon, so I'm going to have to show him this. :)

I left you an award at my blog. No need to pass it on unless you want to but I just wanted you to know that I think your blog is great :)
